Overview
Commercial Restroom Partitions recently was recently contracted by Lockard Companies to build out all tenant and public restrooms in a new retail facility, The Outlets of Corpus Christi Bay. This project was undertaken by Lockard working in partnership with EB Development and Cardumer Commercial.

The mall was constructed to meet an undeserved market in one of Texas’ most vibrant tourist areas. With a local market that booms when oil and gas prices are high—and that weathers economic downturns with a resilience that many regions would envy—this part of the state offers an unparalleled opportunity for retailers seeking a steady local customer base and vibrant revenue streams from tourists.

Background
Corpus Christi was home to a recent economic boom with the development of the Eagle Ford Shale and the conversion of the old Inglenook Naval Station into an oil production facility. While the city was affected by the recent economic slowdown that impacted the entire Oil and Gas industry, the local economy here proved itself much more resilient than almost every other part of the country.

A significant part of this resiliency is related to the thriving tourist industry which has been a mainstay for this part of the state for Texas. Located near South Padre Island, the area witnesses an annual influx of about 8 million visitors per year. Most of these tourists stay for at least the weekend and typically look for a place to go shopping before returning home.

Location of Tenant and Public Restrooms
There are 9 buildings total in the mall. Tenant suites are located throughout the facility and contain one small, employee restroom each. Public restrooms for men and women are located in buildings 3, 4, 5, and 6. There are also smaller, family restrooms located in these buildings. Building 5 has 2 restrooms of all three types, while the other buildings have one of each type.

Fire extinguishers were mounted in cabinets in key locations in mall thoroughfares. A security bench, which contains rungs to which suspects can be handcuffed, was mounted in the main mall office.

Project Installation Details
We were contracted by Lockard to build out all tenant restrooms within the facility. These restrooms were small and intended for retail and food/beverage service industry employees. We also handled the installations for the men’s public restrooms, the women’s public restrooms, and family public restrooms.

Every public restroom has at least 1 ADA stall. Storage cubbies were cut into the rear wall of the stall.

We installed a special security bench in the main office, and we mounted multiple fire extinguishers in key locations throughout the facility.

Equipment Highlights
Solid Plastic Partitions
All public restroom stalls were build with toffee colored solid plastic partitions. These partitions are made from 100% recycled high-density polyethylene. Solid plastic is impervious to moisture and highly resistant to impact. It is also easy to clean.

Baby Changing Stations
Baby changing stations were installed in every men’s, women’s, and family restroom. Key features of these stations are no pinch point hinges and an antimicrobial surface that minimizes the risk of infections.

Frameless Mirrors
Frameless mirrors are easy to hang and somewhat vandal resistant. Smaller mirrors measured 24 inches by 36 inches and 36 inches by 30.

Grab Bars
Stainless steel grab bars were installed in all restrooms, including tenant restrooms. These bars mount to the wall with concealed flanges and screws and provide accessibility for wheelchair bound users.

Fire Extinguishers
These units are specially designed to put out electrical fires.

Cuff Bench
The bench features a 750-pound static load capacity and contains steel cuff rings to detain suspects arrested by mall security. The unit is made from formed welded steel and bolts to the floor.
